Abdi İbrahim Medical Directorate compiled very striking information within the scope of Cancer Week, which is held every year between April 1-7, in order to use the results obtained with the advancement of technology and medicine more effectively and to raise awareness.

Cancer is the health problem that causes the most death in the world, right after cardiovascular diseases. In Western societies, one out of 250-350 people is diagnosed with cancer each year. Over the age of 60, this rate increases even more, reaching 300-4 people out of every 5 people.

According to the World Health Organization 2020 data, when both genders are considered, the 3 most common cancer types in Turkey are lung, breast and colorectal cancers, respectively; The 3 most common cancer types in men are lung, prostate, and colorectal cancer; in women, it is breast, thyroid and colorectal cancer.

90% environmental, 10% genetic factors

Cancer, a health problem whose diagnosis and treatment requires the cooperation of many specialties, is a disease that develops due to 90% environmental and 10% genetic factors. It is known that 30%-50% of cancer can be prevented by preventing exposure to tobacco use, alcohol consumption, obesity and infections, which are the main environmental factors. The importance of prevention becomes even more important, especially considering that its occurrence can be prevented, loss of life can be prevented by screening, and early diagnosis greatly improves the quality of life. A healthy diet, increasing physical activity, reducing the use of salt, and not using tobacco and tobacco products play a very active role in protection not only from cancer but also from all kinds of diseases, including COVID-19.
Based on the importance of early diagnosis, the frequency recommended by the Ministry of Health in cancer screening is as follows:

  • Breast cancer screening every 40 years for women aged 69-2
  • Cervical cancer screening every 30 years for women aged 65-5
  • Colon cancer screening every 50 years for men and women aged 70-2

With only one biosimilar oncology drug put on the market in 2018, Abdi İbrahim also enabled the government to save 35 million dollars in drug expenditures. Abdi İbrahim will also produce oncology products at the Sterile Injection and Oncology Production Facility, which is still under construction.
