EGİAD Nokia's Turkey CTO İhsan Özcan was the guest of the webinar titled “Digitalization with Efficiency” organized by Aegean Young Business People Association in cooperation with İnci Holding. In the event where the best practices of 5G and LTE technologies used in production and the latest developments in the EU and Turkey were discussed, new age technologies and developments for the business world were also conveyed.

In a period when millions of devices are connected to the internet and there is no step without internet, the speed of the internet is also of vital importance. So what is LTE and 5G that we hear often? What has changed in our lives with 5G, which has been talked about frequently lately and considered as the technology of the future? LTE is derived from the abbreviation of the English word Long-Term Evolution, which means Long-Term Evolution. To put it simply as it concerns us, it appears as a term used as another name for 4G speed. In other words, we can say High Speed Internet. And now, 4G has also been reached, surpassing 5G. After 5G, where online gaming experiences accelerate, the most important developments are spreading rapidly in factories and businesses or, if we expand further, in agricultural areas. While devices that talk to and integrate with each other become very important, EGİAD and İnci Holding, it was evaluated that 5G, the last stage of mobile communication technology, will create radical changes in both industrial production and urban life with the great facilitation it will create in data communication. It was emphasized that "Industry 5", which covers areas such as the internet of things with 4.0G technology, three-dimensional printers, the transition of machines to the learning stage, and automation technologies, has been completed. EGİAD General Secretary Prof. Dr. Deputy Chairman Kaan Özhelvacı, who made the opening speech of the meeting moderated by Fatih Dalkılıç, stated that automation in production has increased with the widespread use of 5G infrastructure, and that many services in enterprises can be provided over the internet with the facilitated data communication. In the most general sense, the role of informatics, which already has a substantial place in the lifestyle, has increased tremendously. Now we have robots and machines that can do the labor and labor-intensive jobs that humans do. However, when processes related to decision making are involved, there is a need for high-capacity computing. Under current conditions, it may not be possible to carry out very high capacity information processing processes and data in the factory. At this point, we are now trying to impose human behavior on robots or machines and expect them to react like humans. Right here, a big job falls on 5G technology,” he said.

Robotic Age Begins with 5G in Businesses

Pointing out that 4G technology plays the leading role in the 5th phase of digital transformation and industry in many countries of the world today, Özhelvacı said, “This technology, on the other hand, makes it possible for the objects in the factory, which is our biggest dream, to move independently and communicate much faster during their movement. We can list the main reasons why 5G is so exciting as it is both incomparably faster than 4G and prevents the delay created by communication technology. 5G technology will find an application area in the industry with more competencies than people will use in their daily lives. We will be able to work with a robot far away more quickly and with a faster bandwidth. It will provide a large capacity line that allows the robot to communicate with thousands of objects simultaneously within the factory. With the 5G technology, we foresee that we will give up many wired communication processes within the factories,” he said.

Agriculture Will Develop with 5G

Stating that 5G has a special importance in terms of agriculture, EGİAD Deputy Chairman Kaan Özhelvacı said, “With 5G agricultural investments, it becomes easier to collect data that is difficult to monitor in farms. In farms spread over large areas, the ability to collect data, obtain information through sensors and follow up instantly is developing. The timely operation of irrigation systems and the grazing of animals in areas with the highest productivity are no longer a dream with 5G technology. It is certain that the efficiency will increase with the acceleration of smart technologies. When we look at it from an environmental point of view, it is possible to say that "more information transfer with low energy consumption", which is summarized with the slogan "less watts, more bits", is compatible with green transformation.

İhsan Özcan, Nokia's Turkey CTO, conveyed the processes, problems and solution proposals of manufacturing factories in the 5G process. Expressing the problems experienced by companies using mobile technology, Özcan conveyed the industry's process of using mobile technology and said, “With the arrival of 5G, the industry sectors started to mobilize. The attack was started with manufacturing factories. There are 7 million base stations in the world, but there are 14 million factory sites. This creates a wifi problem. This can cause production problems in factories. Efforts have been initiated to remedy this problem. Work continues rapidly to open 5G to the industry. 73 operators in 182 countries have launched 5G. In 2024, it is in question that 5G will be implemented in our country. By 2035, 4.5, 5 or 6 G has set itself targets for these industries. With 6G, not only robots but also cobots will enter our lives. This is how R&D personnel have turned their direction to the industry. In our country, 4.9 G studies continue. You can perform 80 percent of the applications you think of today with 4.9 G," he said.
