Ankara Metropolitan Municipality carries out special projects in order to introduce the architectural structures that shed light on the history of the Capital to future generations.

Collaborating with Koç University VEKAM and Başkent University, the Metropolitan Municipality is hosting the 'Selected Buildings Exhibition', which was prepared in Ankara between the years 1930-1980 as part of the "Civil Architectural Heritage Research, Documentation and Protection Criteria Development Project".

In the exhibition opened in Ankara City Council Exhibition Hall; There are selected buildings, posters, models, cards and postcards, which focus on quality buildings located in different parts of the capital and represent the memory of civil architecture.

EXAMPLES OF CIVIL ARCHITECTURE

With the exhibition, which was opened under the coordination of the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage, it is aimed to draw attention to the civil architectural structures specific to residences between the years 1930-1980, to research and document these structures, to protect them by revealing their cultural heritage features and to transfer them to future generations.

Stating that they have accelerated their efforts to ensure that Ankara takes the place it deserves in culture and historical tourism, ABB Cultural and Natural Heritage Department Head Bekir Ödemiş gave the following information:

“Our aim here is to keep the buildings and works of Ankara's identity in mind, to take place in the city's memory and to be passed on to future generations, especially in the section that we will call the 1930nd national architectural process of the Republic Period, covering a 1980-year cross-section between 50-2. In the next period, we will continue to protect these artifacts by ensuring the visibility and awareness of all historical, natural, cultural and archaeological artifacts in Ankara, both before and during the Republic, by our citizens of Ankara. We thank Baskent University and VEKAM for their contributions.”

“SENSITION HAS BEEN CREATED FOR QUALIFIED HOUSING”

Stating that the "Civil Architectural Cultural Heritage Research, Documentation and Preservation Criteria Development Project" prepared by Başkent University between 2011 and 2014 was supported by TÜBİTAK and received the "Project Performance Award", Başkent University Department of Architecture Head Prof. Dr. Nuray Bayraktar drew attention to the fact that the exhibition documents the architectural history of Ankara for a period with the following words:

“Ankara is a modern capital. It is a reconstructed city with a modern urban setup. In addition to many public buildings in this city, there are also very special and very original residential structures built in the same period. Unfortunately, these housing structures are disappearing or undergoing transformations that cannot be considered very serious due to the fact that they cannot be protected. Starting from the exhibition we opened, it is possible to say that there has been a sensitivity towards these quality houses in the architectural environment and in the society. The main intention of the project is to draw attention to and focus on these structures and to ensure that they are protected by keeping them on the agenda of the Chamber of Architects, the architectural environment and the users.”

In the exhibition, which will be open until April 10, 2022; Qualified civil architectural structures identified in Ankara's Çankaya, Altındağ, Mamak, Keçiören and Yenimahalle regions and information on architectural history are displayed through visuals and models.
