“Green Beginnings İzmir Workshop” organized as part of the “Green Stories of Turkey” program started at the Historical Coal Gas Factory. The workshop, which focuses on projects that can be implemented quickly for Smart Cities, will continue on Wednesday, February 23.

The “Green Beginnings İzmir Workshop” organized by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the Dutch Embassy as part of the “Green Stories of Turkey” program started at the Historical Coal Gas Factory. Bureaucrats of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and Izmir Governorship, members of Nature Association, representatives of chambers and volunteers attended the workshop.

Praise for the Metropolitan's work

Berrin Benli, Founder of Novusens Smart Cities Institute, one of the solution partners of the program, who made statements about smart cities and projects that can be implemented quickly, said, “We are working on rapid acquisition projects. We can think of this as solutions we developed for the problem and need, lasting between 4 and 6 months, requiring less financial resources. Why do we want to create them? People are asking 'when will we benefit from this as citizens, what is the benefit of smart city?' they question. It is the same in the world and in Turkey. If you focus on fast-earning projects and implement these projects within the framework of your smart city strategy, you will gain the faith of the citizens," he said. Benli, referring to the projects carried out by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for smart cities, said, "The work you do is really valuable."

Tükel: “Cooperation is important”

Çağlar Tükel from İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Climate Change and Clean Energy Branch made a presentation about the climate change studies of the Metropolitan Municipality. Tükel said, “We believe in the importance of education, and we reach secondary school students based on the proverb 'a tree bends when it is wet'. We have completed our action plans for the resilient city and urban greenhouse gas reduction. Greenhouse gas reduction is important, but also adaptability and resilience. Combating climate change is not something the municipality can do alone. We can reach a conclusion when the joint effort of all the organs of the city is required.

The first day of the workshop ended with project production meetings.
