Evaluating various views on the cleaning and protection of the Gulf by establishing a Scientific Committee consisting of experts, academics and bureaucrats, İZSU took action after the permissions obtained from the relevant ministries and construction equipment started to work in the Gulf. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, who opened to the Gulf to examine the works on site Tunç Soyer, received information from İZSU General Manager Aysel Özkan and the authorities of the institution.
“Both odor problem and pollution will be solved”

Thus, we aim to both eliminate the odor and prevent pollution in the Gulf. Our scanning activity is a 210-day study with a cost of over 27 million liras,” he said. President Soyer reminded that the dredging job in the Gulf is actually among the duties of the central administration, and said, "But we couldn't turn our backs when this was the case."
“We will continue next year”
Stating that they continue to work to separate the rain water and sewage channels, on the one hand, they also collect the pollution formed by the accumulation of decades, President Soyer continued his words as follows: “We think that this work that will continue in three streams will provide a significant relief. By the end of the summer, a large amount of cleaning will be provided. We will continue next year," he said.
How will the process work?
Within the scope of the study, scanning will be done at three stream mouths. Within the scope of the first phase studies, a scanning program of 420 thousand cubic meters will be carried out. The dredging program will be completed for 248 thousand cubic meters in Bornova Stream in February-May, 88 thousand cubic meters in Bostanlı Creek in May-June period, and 84 thousand cubic meters in Cheesecioğlu Stream in June-July. In order to monitor the effects of dredging activities on the Gulf ecosystem, together with Ege University Fisheries Faculty, water column, sediment and biota monitoring will be carried out at 11 stations, four of which are in the main coastal water body, together with the coastal stations. Gulf and creek dredging works, which will be carried out with an investment of more than 27 million liras, will reduce the odor complaints caused by stagnant water. It will also improve the water quality in the Gulf and protect public spaces from flooding by relieving the hydraulic flow of streams during heavy rainfall.
