200 Illegal Cell Phones Caught at Kapikule Border Gate

During the controls carried out for a vehicle by the Customs Enforcement teams of the Ministry of Commerce, 200 latest model smart mobile phones were seized.

Customs Enforcement Teams of the Ministry of Commerce revealed another interesting method that smugglers tried in the operation they carried out at the Kapıkule Customs Gate.

According to the statement made by the Ministry, within the scope of risk analysis and targeting studies carried out by the Customs Enforcement teams, the vehicle under the management of the foreign national who came to the Kapıkule Customs Gate to enter Turkey was deemed risky by the teams and was sent for x-ray scanning. By analyzing the images during the scan, it was determined that there were suspicious densities in the vehicle. Then the vehicle was taken to the search hangar to be searched in detail by the teams.

In the detailed search carried out in the hangar, it was determined that the right and left headlights of the vehicle were removed and the sheet metal sheets were welded to the inside of the vehicle and smuggled telephones were placed in this part. As a result of the search, the latest model mobile phones, which were tried to be smuggled into our country, were seized. While it was determined that the mobile phones were not used, a total of 200 mobile phones were detected. It was understood that the value of the smuggled phones was 2 million 200 thousand Turkish liras.

The investigation into the incident continues before the Edirne Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
