Volkswagen Group has announced that it will establish a new manufacturing plant for battery systems in Hefei, Anhui province, China. With this factory, Volkswagen Group will become the sole owner of a battery system plant for the first time in China. It has been announced that the production facility will have a production capacity of 150 thousand – 180 thousand high voltage battery systems in the first stage. It was stated that the battery systems produced will be allocated to the fully electric vehicles produced on the platform of the VW Group in Anhui.

The battery factory will span an area of ​​45 square meters and will be built next to the Volkswagen Anhui production facility. Volkswagen Anhui is known to be the first fully electric vehicle production facility in which the VW Group has a majority stake. Volkswagen Group China will invest more than 2025 million euros by 140 for the new plant and additional arrangements. Actual production is foreseen for the second half of 2023.

The goal of the Volkswagen Group is to maintain and even improve its international competitiveness by focusing on battery systems, one of the most important components in this field, with the awareness that we have entered the era of "electro mobility" on a global level. In this context, Volkswagen Anhui and VW Anhui Components Company will lead the Group to actively pursue its goal of establishing an electric vehicle fleet. The joint work of both companies will ensure that up to 2030 percent of the total Chinese Volkswagen fleet will be electric vehicles by 40.
