“The goal is to protect the whole Bodrum”

Making a statement before the event, Bodrum Mayor Ahmet Aras said, “We will go to Çatal Ada and we want to draw attention to the environmental pollution in Çatal Ada and to the sand lilies, an endemic species on the beach. The work we will do here is purely for the protection and transfer of sand lilies. Sand lilies are endemic species. It happens in some parts of Bodrum. There are sand lilies mostly on the coast of Çatal Ada, Kargı, Akyarlar, Ortakent and Yahşi. These are species that need to be protected, but not only the sand lily, but of course the goal is to protect the whole of Bodrum and pass on its natural beauties to future generations. This is exactly the message that these studies actually want to convey. We are talking about the sand lilies being an example here, so Bodrum is a whole with its endemic species, natural beauties, vegetal or historical assets and everything, and it is a cultural property that should be protected, a world heritage.” said.

Bodrum Municipality officials emphasized that similar events will be held in the future and that such activities are a part of sustainable environmental policies. Such events are expected to increase the interest of local people and visitors in the natural environment, support conservation efforts and contribute to leaving a clean and healthy environment for future generations.
