Narlıdere Metro Stations Are Covered in Green!

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is greening the station tops of Narlıdere Metro, which is days away from opening, with maquis plants suitable for the nature of Izmir. The parks, equipped with 17 thousand 15 plants of 350 different species, will be the living spots of the city with their urban furniture and social areas.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which has built the city with iron nets, is rapidly continuing its preparations for the Narlıdere Metro, which will be opened on February 24. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Parks and Gardens Department is organizing the station tops of Narlıdere Metro, which will connect Bornova Evka-3 and Narlıdere, as living green areas. 7 of the 6 new stations added to the Izmir Metro, including Balçova, Çağdaş, Dokuz Eylül University Hospital, Faculty of Fine Arts, Narlıdere, Martyrdom and District Governorship, are opening to the park (except Dokuz Eylül University Hospital). These parks, which have been redesigned as places where the people of Izmir will spend time with pleasure, will be put into service together with the Narlıdere Metro.

Izmir's maquis vegetation will live in the stations

In the green areas above the stations, soil hills were created to grow tree species that form wide crowns. It was aimed for the parks to represent maquis ecosystems by using the land form formed by the hills and the species in Izmir's maquis vegetation. The use of species growing in the region within the city will primarily increase the presence of species needed by biodiversity. The plant ecosystem used on the stations will provide savings in maintenance costs such as reducing water spent by irrigation in the long term.

15 thousand plants suitable for the texture of Izmir

At each station, a total of 17 different plant species growing in Izmir; 350 thousand 14 plants were used, including 15 trees, 350 shrubs and XNUMX thousand shrubs. The parks above the station, which will reflect the biological texture of Izmir, will also contribute to the urban aesthetics with urban furniture, seating areas, lighting and social areas.
