Karabük Mayor Rafet Vergili announced that the process of issuing notifications for the control and inspection of measuring and weighing instruments used by tradesmen has started, and for the periodic inspection and stamping operations of measuring and weighing instruments carried out every 3516 years in accordance with the Law No. 2 on Measurements and Settings.

Mechanical scales used in fixed shops for measuring and weighing operations, electronic scales used in marketplaces (not capable of giving output without a barcode, not connected to any device), pointer, mechanical scales, weighbridges, weighing scales, meters, liters, grams and kilograms are subject to inspection and stamping. He/she can use scales that have been first inspected by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, stamped and offered for sale. It is forbidden to buy, sell, use and keep measuring and weighing instruments that do not have the first inspection stamp in the workplace. Defective measuring and weighing instruments and scales cannot be repaired without obtaining a repair permit form from the Measurements and Adjustment Unit. The stamps of measuring and weighing instruments cannot be removed, installed or interfered with by anyone other than the measurement and adjustment officers of the License Inspection Directorate. When measuring and weighing instruments break down or the stamp wire breaks, an application must be made to the Measurements and Adjustment Unit on the same day. It is the responsibility of the current user to have the measuring and weighing instruments inspected, stamped and kept their stamps. Stationary tradesmen can apply to our municipality, market tradesmen can apply to the nearest municipality to which they are affiliated. Our periodic inspections and controls will continue in 2024 in order to protect the rights of the buyer and seller.

Procedures to be Performed for Inspection

Our tradesmen must declare the measuring and weighing instruments they use, with the stamp year 2022, to our Municipality's Measurements and Adjustment Unit every two years between January 2 and February 29, 2024. The "Type, Capacity, Serial Number and Brand" of the scales for which the declaration will be submitted must be known. The measuring and weighing instruments for which the declaration has been submitted will be brought to the appointment place to be inspected and stamped on the day and time specified by the measurement and adjustment unit. Measuring and weighing instruments that are not brought on the appointment date will not be examined. Those who have measuring and weighing devices in their workplaces must submit their notifications by February 29, 2024 to avoid being penalized.

Criminal Procedures

As of February 29, 2024, tradesmen who do not carry out the above-mentioned works and transactions will be fined in accordance with the relevant paragraphs of Article 3516 of the Measures and Calibration Law No. 15, as well as a fine based on the provisions of the Misdemeanor Law No. 5326 for violation of the order, and their measuring and weighing instruments will be confiscated and taken into public ownership. The provisions of the Turkish Penal Code also include imprisonment sanctions for tradesmen who do not carry out the above-mentioned works and transactions.
