İzmir Metropolitan Municipality İZSU General Directorate has started to work on the cleaning of sea lettuce and red algae that accumulate in the shallow areas of the Gulf as a result of seasonal conditions in the autumn and spring periods each year.

In the examinations made by the İZSU General Directorate after the appearance of dark mud-like images on the sea surface in recent days, it was determined that this situation was caused by the formation of red algae.

With the warming of the weather, the green algae, which is widely seen and known as sea lettuce among the people, started to be seen in the bay, and the teams took action and started cleaning from the land and sea.

Due to the increase in sea temperature and the increase of nutritive elements in the sea, the teams continue their cleaning works from the land and sea so that the sea lettuce that hits the beach does not rot and cause a bad smell. Sea lettuce and red algae, which are in a natural deterioration process that are not toxic and do not harm human health, are collected by the teams in a controlled manner so that they do not cause odor.
