IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluparticipated in the TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) start ceremony of the Çekmeköy - Sancaktepe - Sultanbeyli metro line. For the construction of the 11-station line, which is approximately 8 kilometers long, 2 TBMs were lowered to the construction site. Speaking at the ceremony, İmamoğlu said that the end of the project was delayed by increasing the number of excavation vehicles planned from 4 to 6. Reminding that the construction of 10 subways under construction in Istanbul continues rapidly, İmamoğlu touched upon the opposition's claim that the subway projects were stopped, which is often voiced. Emphasizing that not a single metro has been stopped, İmamoğlu said, “Pendik –Tuzla and Kirazlı – Halkalı Our metro lines were terminated because there was less than 15 percent progress due to the circular issued by the Presidency. Permission for one of the terminated lines came. We will do it again. We are waiting for the other. We will make our tenders quickly and continue on our way with a bang," he said. Stating that with the Hızray project, which will extend from one end of Istanbul to the other, one-way transportation will take 50 minutes, İmamoğlu said, “Thus, by providing this connection with our 12 subway lines connecting Istanbul underground, this fast transportation on the east-west axis will meet with our other subways on the north-south axis. It will provide an advantage in terms of urbanism. It will reduce the northern pressure,” he said.

Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Ekrem İmamoğluwas again in Sultanbeyli for the afternoon part of today's shift after the opening of Kemal Tahir Library, which he held yesterday. İmamoğlu attended the TBM commencement ceremony of the Çekmeköy - Sancaktepe - Sultanbeyli metro, which was started to be rebuilt in January 2019 after the financing problems were resolved, while the construction was stopped in June 4 and it was at the level of 2020 percent. Stating that the construction of 10 metros has been continued at the same time with a great leap to increase the quality of life and transportation comfort of Istanbul residents, İmamoğlu said that Bostancı-Dudullu metro line and Rumeli Hisarüstü - Aşiyan funicular line completely, KabataşHe gave the good news that the Mecidiyeköy line will be partially opened.

“WE WILL CONTINUE STRONGLY WITH METRO PROJECTS”

Referring to the claims of politicians that IMM has stopped the construction of two subways, İmamoğlu said, “There were reports that two subway lines were stopped in Istanbul. We did not stop the subway. Pendik –Tuzla and Kirazli – Halkalı Our metro lines were terminated because there was less than 15 percent progress due to the circular issued by the Presidency. Permission for one of the terminated lines came. We will do it again. We are waiting for the other. We will make our tenders quickly and continue on our way. If we stop already, we will explain. It was terminated, now we will make the tender. We will make a stronger, more principled tender, we need to make a fast tender. I hope that we will put them on their way in the most correct way and continue at full throttle.”

“I EXPERIENCE HIGHER EXCITEMENT OF SERVING ONE OF THE DISTRICTS WHERE WE GOT FEW VOTES”

Stating that there was uncertainty about the metro process when they started work, the people of Sultanbey were wondering when the project would come, İmamoğlu said, “We started the project by managing the financing and borrowing process well. We have very solid preparations for the continuation. We want to complete it quickly. We want Sultanbeyli to reach the rail system connection that can reach every center of Istanbul as soon as possible. Our basic stance here, our political ethical stance, our excitement is higher than that; I am more excited to serve one of the districts where we received less votes. Because I am excited to convince them, or rather, to make them feel that we can do better. We will achieve this too, by God's grace. You will see. Our wind will blow differently in the next election in Sultanbeyli," he said.

PROJECTS WILL REDUCE NORTH PRESSURE

Sharing the information that 30 people work at 2 points within the scope of the project, Mayor İmamoğlu concluded his speech as follows:

“We need to bring the rail system to every corner of Istanbul. We need to act fast. It is important that we are making a connection that will take you 75 kilometers from Sabiha Gökçen to Beylikdüzü -Esenyurt in almost 50 minutes, with Hızray, which we attach great importance to especially in order for Istanbul to achieve a more effective and more qualified life at the point of urban planning. Thus, by providing this connection with our 12 subway lines that connect Istanbul to each other underground, this fast transportation on the east-west axis meeting with other subways on the north-south axis will provide an advantage for Istanbul in terms of urbanism. It will reduce the northern pressure. We will create happy people wherever they are.”

ENGİN ALTAY: “IF IT GOES LIKE THIS, ISTANBUL WILL BE FAMOUS WITH THE METRO”

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Engin Altay, who participated in the IMM President's program in Sultanbeyli, said that the world's leading cities came to the fore with their subways and said, "If Mr. Imamoglu continues like this, this will shake the throne of London, New York, Paris and Moscow. I believe in this. With that energy, these works, this speed, this speed, this energy, this enthusiasm seem to bring Istanbul to a very high point in the category of world cities famous for its metros in a year or two.”

OPENING IN 2023

Speaking at the ceremony, IMM Deputy Secretary General Pelin Alpkökin said the current status of the works, “We took the opening of our line back 6 months in the first place. We are trying to optimize our lines. We will open our first phase in the second half of 2023. Our second phase, on the other hand, continues until the end of 2024, that is, for the section until Sultanbeyli.”
