Tension in the Red Sea Threatens Food Security

Rising tensions in the Red Sea have posed a threat to maritime transport of collective farm products, as attacks by the Houthi group on ships in the region have forced many shipping companies to suspend transportation or seek alternative routes.

According to CCTV, the Houthi group in Yemen has carried out repeated attacks against "Israeli-linked ships" in the Red Sea since the beginning of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The US and UK have recently launched several attacks against the Houthi group.

Due to increasing tensions, many global shipping giants have chosen to change route through the Suez Canal, which connects the Red Sea to the Mediterranean and serves as one of the busiest waterways in the world.

Rerouting the shipment also resulted in higher shipping costs and longer delivery times.
