Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyerattended the opening ceremony of DİSK Genel-İş's service building in İzmir. President Soyer said, “Turkey and the world are going through very difficult days. The only solution to get through these troubled days is to fight shoulder to shoulder, all together.”
The renewed service building of the İzmir branches of the General Services Workers' Union of Turkey (General-İş) affiliated to the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions (DİSK) was opened with a ceremony. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor for the opening of the 5-storey service building in Kahramanlar Tunç Soyer, CHP İzmir deputies Kani Beko and Atilla Sertel, DİSK Chairman Arzu Çerkezoğlu, General - Business Chairman Remzi Çalışkan, DİSK Aegean Region Representative Memiş Sarı, district mayors and many DİSK members.
“Our main need is education”
General – İş Chairman Remzi Çalışkan, reminding that Abdullah Baştürk and his friends founded the union 60 years ago, said, “This building is a necessity. Buildings are a necessity, we will do the necessities, but our main need is education. To be conscious is to have class consciousness. And it is to make the struggle even bigger,” he said.
“We are growing a struggle that will be Turkey's hope”
DİSK Chairman Arzu Çerkezoğlu said that these buildings are not composed of stones and walls, and that they will fight together with everyone who contributed to the mortar of the buildings. Çerkezoğlu said, “We hold our meetings and trainings in these buildings. We make our decisions, we set our goals. Here, we set our struggle targets in order to turn this order that we are trying to keep alive, into an order in which we can live and work humanely. And after that, we leave these buildings and flow into workplaces, fields and squares. We are raising a struggle that will be the hope of the entire working class of Turkey," he said.
We will fight shoulder to shoulder
Then wishing the new service building of DİSK good luck Tunç Soyer, said: “We are experiencing a very exciting moment. In this crisis, in this poverty, in this epidemic, amid all these troubles, DİSK Genel-İş Union has shown the courage to open such a building. He gave the work for it. Congratulations. Despite all these difficulties, it is extremely valuable that you have succeeded. Turkey and the world are going through very difficult times. The only solution to get through these troubled days is 'There is no salvation alone. It is hidden in the word 'all together or none of us'. We will continue to fight together, shoulder to shoulder.”
After the speeches, the ribbon was cut together.
