In Samsun, the occupancy rate of Çakmak Dam, where a significant part of the city's drinking water needs are met, rose to 94 percent. According to the data of the General Directorate of SASKİ, 68 million 715 thousand cubic meters of water accumulated in the dam. Stating that there is no problem of drinking water in the city as of now, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir said, "We do not have a problem with drinking water at the moment, but we expect all our citizens to always show sensitivity in water consumption against possible negative situations."

While seasonal droughts were experienced in various regions of Turkey due to global climate change, the recent rainfall in Samsun positively affected the occupancy rates of the dams. The occupancy rate of Çakmak Dam, where a significant part of the city's drinking water needs are supplied, has reached 94 percent. According to the data of Samsun Water and Sewerage Administration (SASKİ) General Directorate, 68 million 715 thousand cubic meters of water accumulated in Çakmak Dam.

'There is no problem at the point of drinking water'

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir stated that there is no problem with drinking water in the city at the moment and said, “We can experience the effects of global climate change severely from time to time in our country. In our province, there is currently no problem in drinking water supply. The occupancy rate of Çakmak Dam increased to 94 percent. The recent rains have increased the occupancy rate in our dam. However, we have the summer season ahead of us, and at this point, we expect our citizens to show sensitivity in water consumption against all kinds of negative situations. Saving and raising awareness about water consumption is an issue that we should attach great importance to.
