İzmirdeniz Project Set as an Example to the World

The Izmir Deniz Project, carried out by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which reorganized the city shores in order to strengthen the relationship of the people of Izmir with the sea, was published in the book "Design Examples for Social Innovation from the World". Published by Routledge publishing house, 6 projects from 45 continents were included in the book.

İzmirdeniz Project was selected for the book “Design for Social Innovation: Case Studies from Around the World” published in November 2021. The project, which is titled “İzmir Sea: Strengthening the Relationship of İzmir Citizens with the Sea” in the book, aims to increase the quality of life of the citizens and to make İzmir stand out again with its design among the Mediterranean cities by considering the coastline with an innovative design approach.

Included in 6 study books from 45 continents

The book, which includes examples of “design for social innovation” in the fields of public health, urban planning, economic development, education, humanitarian response, cultural heritage and human rights from all over the world, by the Leap Dialogues team included 6 projects from 45 continents. In the book published by the Routledge publishing house, the impact of the selected projects in their location was also evaluated.

Izmir Deniz Project

The Izmir Deniz Project, carried out by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Department of Studies and Projects, Department of Urban Design and Urban Aesthetics, was designed with participatory processes and shaped in line with the criticisms and suggestions of different segments of the society. The 40-kilometer coastline between the İzmirdeniz Project and the Mavişehir-İnciraltı Urban Forest was redesigned. In this context, the human-sea relationship was reconstructed and strengthened by considering the needs of different age groups and social segments and the basic use of the coast. Values ​​of the coast such as sports, entertainment and games were developed and made available to the people of Izmir. Piers, sculptures, uninterrupted pedestrian paths, bicycle paths, special landscaping and playgrounds were established on the shores, thus enriching not only the coasts but also the lifestyle in the city.
