Emirgan Grove is Always Green, Always Young

Everything is done to keep Emirgan grove green and young. İBB fully fulfills its responsibilities. Trees that have died in the 420-decare urban forest grove are removed and new ones are planted in their place. This process, which has been done for years, ensures that the Emirgan Grove is always green and always young. All transactions are carried out with the approval of the Protection Commissions of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate, in accordance with the Law No. 2863 on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets.

TREE DEATHS ARE NOT REGISTERED

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Park, Garden and Green Areas Department Urban Ecological Systems Directorate teams are not indifferent to the normal destructive effects of nature such as wind, storm and snow, as well as tree deaths caused by human and air pollution. All works in Emirgan Grove, which is owned by IMM and accepted as a protected area, are carried out according to the management plan prepared in accordance with the "Forest Law" numbered 6831.

APPROVED BY THE MINISTRY COMMISSION

These plans, which are approved by the forest administration, are realized with the approval of the Protection Commissions of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate in accordance with the Law on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets No. 2863. In order for Emirgan to be preserved in its current state and the natural structure here to be sustainable, management (the work of arranging the dead trees that need to be cut in the forest, taking into account the natural balance) depends on the periodic renewal of the plans. Studies are carried out within the framework of the plan, both to fulfill the legal justifications and to prevent interruptions in the technical procedures to be applied in the groves.

ALL LEGAL PROCESSES ARE FOLLOWED

Management Plan for Emirgan Grove was previously prepared by İ.Ü. It was organized by the Faculty of Forestry in 2002. This plan was prepared within the framework of the "Forest Law" numbered 2011 and the "Law on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets" numbered 2001 and was put into practice after it was submitted to the approval of the authorized institutions. It was approved by the Department of Administration and Planning. It was accepted by the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization on 6831 December 2863 and put into practice.

It is not a tree massacre as claimed in Emirgan, but on the contrary, a management that will protect the forest, remove dead trees and put new ones, that is, the removal of dead trees that need to be cut, taking into account the natural balance, is being done. The work to be done is carried out when mass tree deaths and falls occur in the groves.

The resulting emergency was first documented with reports and photographs. Then, the trees that were exposed to this event were cut down and new saplings with the appropriate size and species were planted under the supervision of Forest Engineers, Agricultural Engineers and Landscape Architects. This is exactly what is done in Emirgan these days.

IT IS A VITAL BUSINESS DONE SINCE 2002

In the Emirgan grove, 2021 trees of 15 species were planted in 140, and in 2022, 13 trees of 175 species such as Judas tree, Cedar, Linden, Horse chestnut, Oak, Sweetgum, Iron Tree, Magnolia, etc. are planned to be planted. Removing dry trees and planting new healthy trees in Emirgan Grove is a routine forestry process since 2002.
