The light rail system, built by the Chinese company CRCC to serve pilgrims in Saudi Arabia's holy city of Mecca, successfully completed its annual mission yesterday.
CRCC official Zhang Long stated that the light rail system affected by the COVID-19 outbreak is back in service two years later.
Mentioning that this year's service lasted from July 6 to July 12, Zhang said that the total operating time of the system reached 158 hours, and that a total of more than 2 million 228 thousand passengers were carried by 1 thousand 290 train services.
There are a total of nine stops on the 18,25 kilometer long line route of the light rail system, which goes back and forth between three pilgrimage sites.
The Makkah light rail system was put into service on November 13, 2010 and is the first light rail railway in Saudi Arabia built by the Chinese company in the Middle East region.
So far, the Mecca light rail system has carried more than 20 million pilgrims in total.
According to the Islamic calendar, this year's pilgrimage took place from 7 to 11 July.
