
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has undertaken critical tasks with its units in controlling the fires in Izmir. Istanbul Fire Department, Road Maintenance and ISKI teams have successfully intervened in Çeşme, Buca and Menderes. The teams, who are on the field with 75 personnel and 27 vehicles and construction equipment, are in the region on alert against the risk of the fire spreading again.
In line with the request of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) dated July 2, 2025; Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) took action and dispatched the relevant units to the region in order to provide support to the ongoing forest fire in the Çeşme district of İzmir.
FROM ONE FIRE TO ANOTHER
Some of the IMM teams assigned to support the fire were diverted and quickly dispatched while on their way back from other duty areas. The ISKI team, which completed its work in Kula, Manisa, was diverted from the Balıkesir location to İzmir while on its way back to İstanbul. Similarly, the Road Maintenance teams, which completed their duty in Bilecik, were dispatched directly from Bilecik to İzmir.
COOLING WORKS IN ÇEŞME GERMİYAN AND ILDIR
The fire, which affected the Burcu Site in the Çeşme Germiyan Village area and the Ildır Neighborhood Başkent Site, was brought under control. The first team of the IMM Fire Department, consisting of 32 people, completed their intervention with five firefighting water supply vehicles, one maintenance and repair vehicle and three service trucks, and concentrated on cooling efforts in the hot spots of the fire.
PRECAUTIONS AND CONTROL PROCESS IN BUCA KISIKKÖY
The second team of the Istanbul Fire Department took precautions to prevent the fire from spreading to residential areas around Kısıkköy in the Buca district since yesterday evening. The second team, consisting of approximately 28 personnel, created the line with five water supply vehicles and two trucks. In order to prevent the flames, which were brought under control in the evening hours, from reviving, the teams carried out a cooling tour around the neighborhood.
ISKI'S WATER SUPPLY AND CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY SUPPORT
İSKİ personnel also joined the work in the fire area. The İSKİ team, consisting of five expert personnel, supported water supply in the area with a water tanker, crawler loader and trailer tractor, and took part in opening roads and establishing intervention lines.
THE FIGHT AGAINST THE FLAMES HAS ENDED
75 personnel and 27 vehicles and construction equipment were on duty in the fight against forest fires in Izmir. The operation, which was carried out by teams in the field against the flames, was continued in order to prevent the fire from spreading and reaching residential areas. After the control was achieved, IMM teams are in the region, ready for duty in a state of alert. They will return to Istanbul when the risk of the fire flaring up again is eliminated.
