Speaking at the welcoming ceremony for SyrianAir's first flight at IGA Istanbul Airport, İGA Istanbul Airport Commercial Director Fırat Ocak, evaluated SyrianAir's resumption of flights to Istanbul after a long break as an important development both in the aviation sector and in regional connections:
“While air transportation between the two countries is strengthened again with the 5-day-a-week Damascus-Istanbul flights, we at iGA Istanbul Airport are proud to offer our international passengers a wider flight network. Today’s flight is not only the beginning of a new route, but also a symbol of reestablished ties, growing partnerships and shared opportunities. We hope that SyrianAir, which has joined the iGA family as our 6th new airline partner this year, will increase regional mobility and offer more options to our passengers.”
The company, which had to largely cease its activities due to the civil war that began in 2011 and international sanctions, resumed domestic flights in December 2024 and international flights in January 2025.
From Damascus, the capital of Syria İGA Istanbul AirportFlights to will be operated five days a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays with Airbus A5 type aircraft.
Founded in 1946, SyrianAir began its operations with domestic flights as Syria's first and national airline. From the 1950s onwards, it expanded to regional and international destinations and became one of the major airlines in the Middle East.
