Introduced with great hopes, MindsEye could not escape the heavy criticism of players and critics. The third-person action game, released on June 10, stood out as the first project of the Build a Rocket Boy studio founded by former Rockstar legend Leslie Benzies. However, technical problems and bugs made the game one of the most unsuccessful productions of 2025.
The Negative Outlook for MindsEye Grows
MindsEye was introduced as a “GTA rival” during its launch and was eagerly awaited by a large number of players. However, since its release, the game has been on the agenda with bug videos and artificial intelligence errors shared on social media. Instead of the open-world experience that the game promised, players encountered a nightmare full of bugs.
The scores collected on popular review sites also clearly illustrate the picture. MindsEye's critic score on Metacritic is only It appears as 43 and this value is in the “Generally negative” category. The user rating is even worse: 10 over 2.4This score puts MindsEye among the lowest-rated games in recent years.
These results have left bad examples in the gaming world before. Quantum Error, released in 2023, failed to receive a passing grade from critics with a score of 40. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, released the same year, received a score of 33, making it the most ridiculed game of the era. MindsEye has become a new example that shares this bad reputation.
Still, the Build a Rocket Boy team is hopeful. The studio has published a roadmap stating that work is ongoing to fix MindsEye and deliver the promised experience to players. However, regaining players' trust will not be easy for the studio, and this could jeopardize the studio's future.
