Water Saving Training for Students in Antalya

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality ASAT General Directorate has launched an important education project to protect water resources and increase environmental awareness. Drawing attention to the importance of water saving as the effects of the climate crisis increase, the project reached approximately 1200 primary school students in three months.

Within the framework of the protocol signed between the Metropolitan Municipality ASAT General Directorate and the Antalya Provincial Directorate of National Education, trainings were organized for 4th grade students in the districts of Kumluca, Elmalı, Kemer, Serik, Duraliler, Döşemealtı, Aksu and İbradı.

The team, which visited the districts with ASAT's mobile training truck, reached approximately 3 students in 1200 months. In the trainings, topics such as the process of water reaching the taps and the purification and disposal of waste after flushing were explained in detail.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS IS RAISED

ASAT teams visited 4th grade students at Kemer Mustafa Rüştü Tuncer Primary School as part of the project and provided training on the conscious use of water. Students were asked to answer the question, “What would a world without water be like?” and to draw this idea using waste materials. This activity drew attention to the negative consequences that unconscious water use could have in the future. With trainings for students and teacher candidates, conscious use of water and environmental awareness began to be gained at an early age.

STUDENTS ARE VERY SATISFIED WITH THE EDUCATION

Expressing her satisfaction with the information campaign held in their school, Elif Nur Küçükyılmaz said, “Thanks to the training we received today, we learned how to use water resources correctly and consciously. We should protect water together, thinking about our future. For example, we should turn off the tap while brushing our teeth. When we see burst water pipes on the streets or avenues, we should immediately call Alo 185.”

A student named Yağmur Dişli said; “We should be very careful because our water resources are limited in our world. We should never waste water. We should not leave the tap running while washing our hands or face. We should collect laundry and dishes and wash them. We should also gently warn those around us who waste water.”

TEACHER CANDIDATES ALSO TOOK AN ACTIVE ROLE IN THE PROJECT

In the second leg of the project, students from the Social Studies Teaching Department of Akdeniz University Faculty of Education participated in the project. Within the scope of the “Community Supported Project” course, teacher candidates were informed about issues such as water saving, environmental awareness and climate crisis with 14 weeks of training. Following the training provided by ASAT and Antalya Metropolitan Municipality experts, teacher candidates also participated in field studies and provided training to students. During this process, 11 teacher candidates were trained as individuals who will convey environmental and water awareness to students in the future.
