Train Accident in India: 4 Dead, 9 Injured

At least four passengers were killed and nine others injured after falling from an overcrowded moving train in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.

The accident took place on Monday near Mumbra Railway Station in Thane district, about 44 kilometres northwest of Maharashtra's capital Mumbai.

According to information provided by railway authorities, passengers who were travelling by holding on to the steps of the train collided with passengers hanging from the step of another train coming from the opposite direction.

A senior health official made a statement regarding the accident, saying, "The passengers who were hanging onto the train fell down due to the two trains passing close to each other. Four of the 13 injured people lost their lives. We are implementing advanced treatment methods for the seriously injured. As of now, the treatment and interrogation of the seven injured people is continuing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital."
