A new regulation is being implemented regarding taxis, which are an important part of transportation in Istanbul. Steps have been taken for the first phase of 2.500 new taxis that will provide service within the scope of 'Application-Based Taxi Transportation'. In the first phase, a tender was held for 150 new taxi plates. 30 people applied for the tender held by closed bidding; 14 of them won the right to participate by meeting the necessary conditions. In the tender, 34 TUA 01 numbered plates were first sold for 4.852.000 TL + VAT. A total of 9 plates found their owners. The new taxis will take their place in traffic soon with their designs determined by the votes of Istanbulites.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has put out a tender for 2.500 taxi plates in the first phase of the 150 new taxis that will provide 'Application-Based Taxi Transportation'. The regulation regarding taxis, one of the most important elements of public transportation in Istanbul, has been awaited by the public for a long time.
The tender held at Dr. Mimar Kadir Topbaş Performance and Art Center in Yenikapı was chaired by IMM Secretary General Prof. Dr. Volkan Demir.

Making a statement about the 'Application-Based Taxi Transportation' Tender, IMM Secretary General Volkan Demir said, “Istanbul and Istanbulites have had a taxi problem that has been going on for a long time. In order to find a solution to this, UKOME has put 2 application-based taxis into service. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council has also authorized the Metropolitan Municipality Executive Board for the sale of these 500 taxis. Today, we put the first stage of these 2 taxis out to tender. Of course, our taxi drivers had nice reactions because this was the first time they encountered such a tender method. But the taxi drivers showed interest in this. We sold some of them. Our application-based taxi will be at the service of Istanbulites in a short time. It will not be able to pick up passengers at the stops. It will only work with certain and approved applications. And as a result of these studies, taxis, our passengers and our drivers will travel safely. Our taxis will be constantly recorded. It will be accredited by the Metropolitan Municipality every year and subject to quality inspections. will be kept. Driver friends will be trained by the Transportation Academy of certain units of our Metropolitan Municipality. I hope this new generation taxi will bring good luck to Istanbulites and our Istanbul,” he said.
THE RIGHT OF USE WILL BE 29 YEARS
With the introduction of the new plates, it is aimed to provide more options in taxi services in Istanbul. While taxi plates issued in previous periods had an indefinite usage right, the usage right of these new taxis will be limited to 29 years. The new taxis will be on the roads with a new design determined by the votes of Istanbulites.
