Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that they have come to an end in the Solar Power Plant works established in TÜRASAŞ Sakarya Regional Directorate. Minister Uraloğlu stated that they will use solar energy in the production of electric train sets, high-speed trains and suburban vehicles and said, “We will meet 90 percent of the electricity used in train production from renewable energy. We will contribute approximately 10 million liras to the economy in 500 years.”
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a statement about the ongoing Solar Power Plant (GES) works at the Sakarya Regional Directorate of the Turkish Rail System Vehicles Corporation (TÜRASAŞ).
90 Percent of Electricity Used in Train Production Will Come from Renewable Energy
Underlining that TÜRASAŞ, the largest rail system vehicle manufacturer in Türkiye and the Middle East, has made a name for itself with the advanced technology products it uses and the large investments it has made, Minister Uraloğlu announced that TÜRASAŞ is also about to implement a giant project in the field of energy. Announcing that they have come to an end in the works initiated to establish a solar energy plant on the factory roofs in the TÜRASAŞ Sakarya Regional Directorate campus, Minister Uraloğlu used the following expressions in his statement:
“When we complete our Solar Power Plant Project in our TÜRASAŞ Sakarya Factory, we will obtain a total of 2 kilowatts of electrical power and we will provide at least 310 percent of the electricity used in train production from renewable energy. In this way, our greatest gain will be to reduce energy costs, which have a significant share in production inputs, increase competitiveness and ensure energy supply security.”
500 Million Lira Contribution to the Economy
Uraloğlu emphasized that with the implementation of the project, they will generate approximately 3 million 350 thousand kilowatt-hours of electrical energy per year, thus contributing an average of 14 million liras to the economy annually and approximately 10 million liras in the 500-year period with current electricity costs, and underlined that 670 tons of carbon dioxide emissions will be prevented with the project, which corresponds to the annual electricity needs of approximately 739 households.
Solar Energy to be Used in the Production of Electric Trains, High-Speed Trains and Commuter Vehicles
Underlining that they, as the Ministry, are implementing environmentally friendly investments for a sustainable future in every mode of transportation, Minister Uraloğlu said, “With the electrical energy we produce with GES, we will use solar energy in the production of electric train sets, high-speed trains, suburban vehicles and maintenance and repair of rail system vehicles in the factories located in our TÜRASAŞ Sakarya Regional Directorate.”
