Safety was ensured by preventing risks in Çiftlikköy Stream

İZSU teams quickly intervened in the stream against the risk of collapse of retaining walls in Çiftlikköy Stream in Çeşme. The work, which lasted approximately one week, was completed and the stream was made safe.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality İZSU General Directorate has completed the works on Çiftlikköy Stream, which passes through the village in Çeşme and reaches the sea. Taking action upon the determination of the risk of collapse in the retaining wall at the coastal road crossing of the stream, İZSU General Directorate Operations 3rd Regional Department teams manufactured stone wall filling, fortification and reinforced concrete curtain in a 30-meter section on both sides of the stream. While 900 tons of mud and waste material were removed from the stream, the ground was reinforced with 800 tons of stone. In addition, reinforced concrete retaining wall manufacturing was carried out with steel mesh reinforcement on the walls that had deformed over time, and safety conditions were ensured.

Stating that they intervened quickly in Çiftlikköy Stream, Çeşme Stream Technical Manager Ayhan Şenoğlu said, “We observed that there was damage to the retaining wall due to the effect of sea water over the years. We built the retaining walls to ensure the safety of our citizens’ lives and property. We improved the base of the stream. Çeşme Municipality also supported us in these works.”

Çiftlik Neighborhood Headman Özdemir Yurttaş, who shared the problems they have experienced with Çiftlikköy Stream for years, said, “We were faced with problems such as mosquitoes, odor, and mud. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay listened to our problem and solved this problem. They put their finger on our bleeding wound.
