
Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality continues to protect the historical and spiritual values of the city. Tasmakıran Mosque, which has survived from the 16th century to the present day, is being restored to its original state upon the instructions of Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç.
Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, who always exhibits examples of social municipalism and heartfelt municipalism, continues to protect the history of the city. In this context, Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality is implementing another important project in line with the vision of protecting the historical texture of the city. Tasmakıran Mosque, which has survived since the 16th century and is one of the oldest religious structures in the region, is being revived under the leadership of the Metropolitan Municipality.
Kayseri City History and Promotion Department Head Gürcan Senem, in his statement about the ongoing restoration work, stated that the area where Tasmakıran Mosque is located has been a settlement area for centuries, and said, “We are in Tasmakıran Mosque, we know that there has been settlement in this area since the 16th century, there are many religious structures from that period. One of them is this mosque. It has undergone many changes, renovations, and repairs in different periods, the last renovation was in the 1950s, and it has been unusable for the last 10 years.”
“This Place Will Be Opened for Worship Again Within the Next Year”
Senem stated that the restoration of the mosque was undertaken by the Metropolitan Municipality upon the instructions of Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç in line with the restoration projects prepared by the Foundations Regional Directorate and that the work started this year, and continued her words as follows:
“The ownership of this mosque belongs to the Foundations Regional Directorate. Our Foundations Regional Directorate had drawn the restoration projects of this mosque, and with the protocol made upon the instructions of our Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, the restoration of this mosque began to be carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality. We started the restoration this year, and God willing, this place will be reopened for worship next year.”
The restoration works of the Metropolitan Municipality, which are not limited to the Tasmakıran Mosque, continue to revive the religious and cultural heritage of Kayseri. Head of Department Gürcan Senem reminded that many structures such as Siviş Mosque, Narlı Mosque, Karacaoğlu Mosque, Çifteönü Mosque and Gubaroğlu Mosque were restored and opened for worship, and stated that Tasmakıran Mosque will be added to this chain.
Tasmakıran Mosque, which draws attention with its location close to the historical Kayseri District, will serve as a center of attraction in terms of worship, history and culture after the restoration is completed.
