Oruç Reis Research Vessel Returns to Türkiye

The Oruç Reis Seismic Research Vessel set off to return to Türkiye after completing its first intercontinental mission in Somalia.

Oruç Reis, who was sent off to Somalia from Dolmabahçe by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on October 5, collected 3D seismic data in an area of 4 square kilometers in 464 separate sea blocks. Oruç Reis' 3-day mission ended on June 234.

Having successfully completed his duty, Oruç Reis set out to return home after the farewell ceremony held at the Port of Mogadishu. The farewell ceremony was attended by Somalia Ports and Maritime Transport Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, Mogadishu Ambassador Alper Aktaş and Somali-Turkish Task Force (TURKSOM) Commander Brigadier General Sebahattin Kalkan.

In addition to the Zağanos Paşa Support Ship, the Sancar Support Ship and the Ataman Pursuit Ship, the frigates TCG Giresun and TCG Göksu from the navy and the Military Logistics Support Ship TCG First Lieutenant Arif Ekmekçi are accompanying Oruç Reis on his return journey.

If weather and sea conditions are favorable, Oruç Reis and its accompanying fleet are expected to arrive in Türkiye at the beginning of July after an 18-20 day journey via the Suez Canal. Oruç Reis, which will pass through the Bosphorus, will then anchor at Filyos Port. The ship will be prepared for its new mission with maintenance and repair work.

All data collected by Oruç Reis will be analyzed in Ankara. Depending on the results of the analysis, drilling operations will begin at designated locations in the Somali offshore.
