No Penalty for Drivers with License on ID Card

Following news on social media that a motorcyclist was fined for “driving without a license,” the Ministry of Interior made an important statement. The Ministry announced that it was understood from PolNet records that the motorcyclist’s driver’s license information was recorded on his Turkish ID Card, and that no fine was issued to the motorcyclist.

Circular “No Penalty If Driving License Is on the ID” Reminded Again

Ministry of Interior, Circular dated 20.09.2020 titled “Uploading Driver’s License Information to the Turkish Identity Card” reminded once again. Within the scope of this circular; those who present the new type of Turkish ID Card and in the query made in the PolNet information system “Driver’s License Information is Loaded on the ID Card” The Turkish ID Cards of drivers with such a warning are considered as driver's licenses.

Such drivers are subject to arrest on the grounds that they do not physically carry their licenses. No traffic administrative fines are applied.

The Ministry also stated that police and gendarmerie traffic personnel were informed about the circular in question again. This situation stands out as an important step taken to prevent citizens from suffering and to prevent incorrect practices in traffic controls.

In order for drivers not to experience any grievances, it is sufficient for them to enter their driver's license information on their Turkish ID Cards and present their ID cards during traffic inspections.
