Slovakia Railways (ZSSK) has put into service a new RegioPanter train built by Czech manufacturer Škoda Group under a regional transport contract. The train is the first of five four-car units ordered in 2021 as part of an option attached to the original 2023 agreement. The project was funded through Slovakia’s Recovery and Resilience Plan and is a significant step in the modernization of the country’s rail network.
New Trains and Expanding Fleet
The new RegioPanter train has entered service, On routes in the regions of Trnava and Banská Bystrica ZSSK plans to add four more such four-wagon units to its network by the end of 2025.
To date, the Škoda Group has delivered a total of 1,000 units to Slovakia, including three- and four-wagon versions. 35 RegioPanter trains The final six units are expected to be delivered by 2026. This expansion is considered a key element of ZSSK’s fleet renewal strategy and fully complies with European quality standards.
Modern Features on RegioPanter Trains
The four-car RegioPanter trains prioritize passenger comfort and technological equipment:
- Capacity and Length: It is 106 meters long and has a capacity of 343 seats.
- Comfort Features: It includes air conditioning, video surveillance, passenger information systems, electrical outlets and USB ports.
- Special Fields: There are special areas for bicycles and baby strollers.
- Internet access: Passengers can also increase their travel comfort by enjoying free Wi-Fi access.
- Technical Specifications: The trains operate with 3 kV DC and 25 kV AC electrical systems and have a maximum speed of 160 km/h. These features enable the trains to operate with high efficiency on regional routes.

ZSSK took delivery of 2021 vehicles as part of a large-scale fleet modernization effort between 2022 and 25.
