Hitachi Energy, the world’s leading electrification company, announced today that it will make a major investment of US$70 million in Dilovası, Kocaeli, Türkiye. The announcement marks the next step in Hitachi Energy’s efforts to make the world’s energy system more sustainable, reliable, resilient and economical.
As electricity demand grows exponentially in Türkiye, as well as in Europe and Asia, existing industry and energy infrastructure are unable to keep pace. Recent geopolitical turmoil is exacerbating supply chain disruptions, raising additional concerns about energy security, availability and stability.
To meet this challenge, Hitachi Energy is making proven investments in its supply chain, expanding capacity across the industry, and leveraging its pioneering spirit to develop innovative technologies.
Hitachi Energy’s key production center, the power transformer plant, will undergo a comprehensive development with the construction of a new 45.000 square meter area. With this investment, scheduled to be completed by 2026, Hitachi Energy will modernize its production infrastructure and increase its production capacity by 70 percent. This expansion will enable more efficient response to increasing customer demands, improved delivery times and higher quality standards.
Making a statement on the subject, Hitachi Energy Turkey General Manager Yasemin Hoşder Öztekin said, “Our move to the Organized Industrial Zone in Dilovası will provide significant advantages, including ease of transportation of transformers thanks to proximity to the commercial port.” Hoşder Öztekin added, “This investment underscores our commitment to supporting the energy transition and meeting the decarbonization needs of our customers.”
As part of the investment, employees currently working at the Kartal factory will be transferred to the Dilovası factory, where they will benefit from the latest technology and improved health and safety standards. This move will simplify operations and increase interactions supported by digital applications in the workplace, contributing to more efficient and environmentally friendly production processes.
The new facility, which will reduce carbon emissions by 95 percent[1], will be built as a factory with an ‘ultra-low carbon’ footprint, demonstrating Hitachi Energy’s commitment to sustainability. The initiative will also support the company’s broader strategy to meet ambitious climate targets. The project will also create new employment opportunities at the Dilovası factory.
This factory is also set to lead the way in shaping a ‘Net Zero’ future by creating jobs, supporting local communities and providing critical infrastructure for a more sustainable, resilient and secure energy system.
