Historic Drug Operation in Diyarbakır

According to the statement of the Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya, the Gendarmerie carried out a large operation in Diyarbakır and seized more than 100 tons of cannabis resin, 12 million 389 thousand cannabis and skunk roots with 127 kg of marijuana took over. Caught in operations 22 suspected drug dealers arrested.

A Large-Scale, Technology-Supported Operation

These huge operations, organized by the Diyarbakır Provincial Gendarmerie Command in the Lice district, were carried out with the support of Gendarmerie Manned Reconnaissance Aircraft (JİHA) and remote sensing systems. The operations were carried out under the coordination of the Lice Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the Gendarmerie General Command Public Security and Intelligence Directorates, and the Counter-Terrorism (TEM) and Counter-Narcotics Crimes Departments.

The huge team and equipment involved in the operation drew attention:

  • 1.780 staff
  • 1 S-70 general purpose helicopter
  • 1 ATAK attack helicopter
  • 2 JIHA and remote sensing system

Provincial Gendarmerie Commands of Muş, Batman, Bingöl, Mardin, Şanlıurfa and Elazığ also supported the operations.

Minister Yerlikaya congratulated the Governor of Diyarbakır, the District Governor of Lice, the Lice Chief Public Prosecutor's Office who coordinated the operations, the Provincial Gendarmerie Commanders who carried out the operations and all the Heroic Gendarmerie personnel for the success of the operation.

Minister Yerlikaya, emphasizing that the fight against drugs is a fight to protect the youth who are the guarantee of the future, said, “We are on every street, every avenue, every corner. We continue our operations day and night with determination, and we will continue to do so!”, giving the message that the fight against drug dealers will continue with determination.

This major operation once again demonstrated Türkiye's effectiveness and determination in its fight against drugs.
