The UAV is ready to enter the ground testing process at the Airbus Defence and Space facilities in Getafe, Spain. This development is seen as an important step that will strengthen the tactical capabilities of the Spanish Armed Forces.
Ground Tests and First Flight Schedule
Extensive ground tests will be conducted for SIRTAP in the coming months. These tests will include structural evaluations, testing of major system components and software checks. Following the completion of ground tests, The first flight is planned to take place at the Spanish National Institute of Aeronautics and Space Technology (INTA) Unmanned Systems Test Center (CEUS) in Huelva, in southwestern Spain, at the end of 2025.
SIRTAP flight test campaign to be held at CEUS, It will continue through 2026. These tests are critical to the UAV being certified for airworthiness and meeting the highest safety and performance standards. The first system To be delivered to Spain in 2027 Targeted.
“A Criterion to Strengthen National Sovereignty”
Jean-Brice Dumont, President of Airbus Defence and Space, commented on this new technical achievement as “showing Airbus’ agility to drive technological innovation in a timely manner with our aerospace industry partners, in line with our vision.” Dumont also emphasized the strategic importance of the project for the national and European defense industry by stating, “Designed and manufactured in Spain, SIRTAP will strengthen national sovereignty and set a benchmark in the tactical unmanned aerial systems segment worldwide. It is another important brick in our goal to create a European ecosystem in defense aviation.”
Large Order and Training Activities from Spain
In November 2023, the Spanish Ministry of Defense placed a significant order for SIRTAP. Within the scope of this order, 3 systems, each consisting of 1 UAVs and 9 ground control station purchased. In total 27 UAVs and 9 ground control stations, will significantly increase the tactical capabilities of the Spanish Armed Forces.
In addition, Airbus Defence and Space is responsible for the training of Spanish operators. 2 simulators The Critical Design Review of these simulators was also successfully passed, demonstrating that their architecture and design are complete. This comprehensive package aims to ensure the seamless integration of SIRTAP into the Spanish inventory.
