
The 30 magnitude earthquake, with its epicentre 49km southwest of Callao and a depth of 6.1km, struck Lima and the country's main port at 15:11am on Sunday, June 35, causing panic and the evacuation of homes, offices and shopping centres.
According to the official report of the National Emergency Operations Center – COEN, one person was killed and five people were injured in the Independencia region as a result of the collapse of a wall and are receiving treatment in hospitals in the capital.
Additionally, damage to homes, shopping malls and health facilities, and disruptions to transportation, electricity and telephone lines were reported.
Authorities have ruled out a tsunami risk and continue to assess the damage, advising people to remain calm and check the condition of their homes in case of possible aftershocks.
One person has been reported dead so far in the Independencia region due to the 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Lima. Five people were injured and are being treated in various hospitals in the capital. Damage to roads and health facilities was also reported.
The Lima metro, which was closed after the earthquake, has started operating again.
