Safranbolu, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, hosted the Cittaslow Turkey National Network Meeting. The meeting was hosted by Safranbolu Mayor Elif Köse and was attended by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, Cittaslow Turkey Coordinator and International Cittaslow Vice President Muhittin Böcek and mayors from the Cittaslow Türkiye network participated.
WE ARE WORKING TO MAKE IT BETTER EVERY DAY
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor made the opening speech of the meeting Muhittin Böcek, drew attention to the fact that such meetings are of great importance for the promotion of cities, and said, “Fair and promotional organizations increase the power of municipalities and cities. Cittaslow is a very important organization with 7 different categories and 73 criteria. As Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, we explain our Cittaslow organization at the fairs we go to. This is a supra-political institution where mayors elected from all parties take part. Antalya hosted approximately 2024 million citizens, including local and foreign guests, in 27. In order to develop tourism and carry it to better points, we are working to make each passing day better.”

Safranbolu Mayor Elif Köse, who stated that she was very happy to host such a meaningful and visionary meeting, said, “As Safranbolu Municipality, we produce projects that protect the historical texture, from agricultural projects that support local production to cultural activities that encourage slow living, with our environmental policies that respect nature. We are planning a city that thinks about future generations, not today. In our work, we have placed fundamental values such as sustainability, durable cities, participatory democracy, and protecting local identity at the center of our understanding of municipalism.”
MUNICIPALITIES EXPLAINED THEIR WORK
After the opening speeches, the mayors were informed about the work carried out by the Cittaslow Turkey Office. While evaluations were made regarding the candidate municipalities for Cittaslow at the meeting, Safranbolu, Seferihisar, Gerze and Arapgir Municipalities shared their work. At the Cittaslow Turkey National Network Meeting, Türkiye's current developments, the candidate district process, the "Cittaslow Idea Marathon", Cittaslow Metropol Antalya applications and good practice examples of Safranbolu were explained. While the Cittaslow applications implemented by the Safranbolu Municipality were examined on site, a technical inspection tour was carried out including stops such as Bağlar Köyiçi, Hıdırlık Seyir Tepesi, Municipality Production Greenhouse and Historical Bazaar.
