The Underwater Search and Rescue team affiliated with the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality has completed its preparations to intervene in possible drowning cases due to the warming weather.
The Underwater Search and Rescue team, which works to find and rescue people lost or in danger in the water within the Fire Department, completed its preparations just days before the summer season.
The team, which went to Antalya in April and received comprehensive training, increased its personnel to 12. The Underwater Search and Rescue team, which will participate in underwater rescue operations throughout the city, will be able to serve the entire region by going outside the city when necessary with the qualified training they receive.
Divers will carry out their duties on alert with the underwater and surface search and rescue team.
'Our diving teams are ready'
Underwater Search and Rescue Team Chief Mehmet Ercan Baran, who provided information about the work, said that the team became more specialized after the training they received in Antalya in April, and said, “Our team is currently serving Diyarbakır professionally. Deep diving, night diving, cave diving, and wreck diving training was also provided. Our training was very productive. Due to this productivity, we are currently waiting with our diving teams ready.”
Warning against drowning incidents
Baran, who noted that due to the high temperatures experienced in Diyarbakır, there were drowning cases especially in the waters where children entered to cool off, made warnings to prevent painful incidents. Baran concluded his words as follows: “Diyarbakır is a region with rivers, lakes, streams and dams. Our request from families is to keep children away from areas where water is not allowed. As everyone knows, we are very close to the Tigris River. We constantly warn about not knowing the flow rate of the Tigris River. Drowning cases are also very common in irrigation canals. These areas should also be avoided.”
