Those Who Lost Their Lives in the Marine Accident 25 Years Ago in Beşikdüzü Commemorated

The sea accident that occurred 25 years ago in the Beşikdüzü district of Trabzon and in which 38 people lost their lives was commemorated with a ceremony. On May 20, 2000, the beginning of spring was celebrated. “May Seventh Festival” 38 people drowned and lost their lives when fishing boats capsized due to overload.

Today, a memorial service will be held for the 38 people who lost their lives in Doğu Gözaçan Park. A sorrowful ceremony in front of the Marine Martyrs' Memorial The ceremony was attended by the relatives of those who lost their lives, district protocol and citizens.

Speaking at the ceremony, Beşikdüzü District Governor Ferhat Vardar said, “Unfortunately, we lost 2000 citizens in a sea accident in 38. We have come here on this occasion, I pray to God for mercy on these 38 citizens who died.” Following District Governor Vardar’s speech, wreaths were laid in the sea in memory of the sea martyrs at the Port location. Then, the Quran was read and prayers were said.

This commemoration ceremony once again showed that despite the quarter of a century that has passed, the pain is still fresh and that the people of Beşikdüzü have not forgotten their lost citizens.
