Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) is undertaking a meaningful project to immortalize the precious memories of Turkish diplomats, their valuable relatives and the heroic personnel of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who were martyred as a result of the treacherous attacks of terrorist organizations. The “Foreign Affairs Martyrs’ Monument and Memorial Site” to be implemented in line with this sublime purpose will rise in the capital Ankara and will keep the names of the martyrs alive forever.
The Conclusion of the Idea Project Competition: Loyalty and Art United
The first step for the construction of the monument was the completion of the site determination work and the subsequent idea project competition attracted great interest. In this meaningful competition, in which a total of 96 valuable works participated, the jury awarded 3 works with the “Equivalent Award” after a meticulous evaluation process. These striking projects, titled “From Martyrdom to Soil, From Soil to Eternity”, “Memory Embedded in Soil” and “Those Remaining in the Shadow and the Sunrise”, stood out with their potential to reflect the memory of the martyrs in the most beautiful way. In addition, 5 works were awarded the “Equivalent Honorable Mention” in the competition, revealing the diversity and depth of the projects.
Works Participating in the Competition Are Exhibited
All valuable works participating in the Foreign Affairs Martyrs' Memorial and Memorial Venue Idea Project Competition will be open to the public at the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Conference Hall Foyer Area starting on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. This meaningful exhibition, which blends art and loyalty, can be visited between 08:30 and 17:00. In addition, a colloquium where a detailed evaluation and exchange of ideas will be held on the projects will be held at the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Conference Hall on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 13:00. This event will provide an important opportunity for everyone who wants to get to know the projects closely and pay their respects to the memory of the martyrs.
Location Selected for the Monument: Botanical Park
This meaningful monument, which will keep the memory of the martyrs alive, will be positioned at a special point determined at the entrance of Botanical Park, one of the favorite places of Ankara, on Çankaya Street. The fact that the monument is located at this central and easily accessible point will allow the memorial site to be visited continuously. The peaceful atmosphere of Botanical Park will further increase the meaning and importance of the monument, and will offer visitors the opportunity to both stand in silence and experience a commemoration surrounded by nature. This choice by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality shows that the monument will serve as a living commemoration area, beyond being just a structure.
