“We took an X-ray of the walls”
Stating that Ankara Castle is one of the most important symbols of the capital, Bekir Ödemiş, ABB Cultural and Natural Heritage Department Project CoordinatorHe said the following about the work carried out:
“Ankara Castle has undergone serious repairs twice throughout its history, but it has been facing problems caused by neglect and incorrect applications for a long time. Over time, both wear and tear has increased and other negativities have occurred. First, as a first stage, a team from Ankara University conducted a georadar study here and took an x-ray of the place. We determined the water levels and humidity levels here again. After these determinations, a team from Gebze Technical University again made a report. We did stitching, in fact, we had the materials we used in this stitching made in Germany. We also did the work on the clock tower without damaging its original texture. The clock was not working, we made it work as well.”
These restoration works are of great importance in terms of preserving the cultural heritage of Ankara Castle and passing it on to future generations.
