
Under the leadership of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş, a project with thousands of years of history The “Silk Road Culture Route” project was implemented in order to revitalize the routes on the Ankara-Bolu-Sakarya line of the Silk Road. Three cities, eight districts and 3 destinations were visited during the two-day promotional tour organized within the scope of the project. Mayor Yavaş stated that one of the most important goals of the project was to apply to UNESCO and include this route in the world heritage list.
The Goal of Protecting Cultural Heritage and Creating Employment
ABB Chairman Mansur Yavaş participated in the “Silk Road Culture Route” program with his wife Nursen Yavaş. In his statement to the press, he summarized the aim of the project as follows: “Our aim is to protect our culture. While protecting our culture, we also want to transfer it to future generations and provide employment. We will create the ‘Silk Road Route’. For this, We will apply to UNESCO.Yavaş emphasized that this decision was perhaps the most important outcome of the trip.
Following the first meeting held at the end of April with the participation of the mayors of the districts on the route, a comprehensive promotional tour was now held. The two-day tour, which included journalists, social media content producers and project stakeholders, began in front of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.
Historical Journey of 30 Destinations

Our aim is for all districts on the Silk Road from Ayaş to Sapanca to introduce their own cultures, and we want our people and everyone living in Türkiye to get to know this beautiful culture. Because the more tourists go to these places, the more they shop here, the more they will have contributed to this culture in a way. The owners of many of the houses you see here used to want to tear them down. Because they thought, ‘it’s of no use to us.’ Now they think that it’s a good thing it’s registered and that these places are like a factory, a source of income for them.” These words clearly reveal the project’s role in transforming cultural heritage into economic value.

During the program, participants had the opportunity to meet the natural beauties, historical structures, local flavors, cultural events and traditional handicrafts of the region. Many cultural heritages were closely examined, from Nallıhan Bird Paradise to İnönü Caves, from Süleyman Paşa Mosque in Göynük to the Historical Bridge in Geyve.
