
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality continues its efforts to make the city more resilient against possible disasters. In this context, it has implemented an innovative project in order to raise disaster awareness among citizens to the highest level: 'Public Health and Disaster Awareness Meetings'The aim of these meetings is to provide comprehensive and practical information to neighborhood residents about what to do before, during and after a disaster.
The First Meeting Was Held in Muradiye
The first of the 'Public Health and Disaster Awareness Meetings' was held in Muradiye Neighborhood, one of the historical and central neighborhoods of Bursa, at the 2nd Murat Muradiye Children's Park. Organized in cooperation with the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Department, Health Affairs Department and Veterinary Affairs Department, this important program attracted great interest from residents of Muradiye as well as Yahşibey, Hamzabey and Kocanaip neighborhoods.
Comprehensive Information from Experts
At the meeting, the importance and methods of being prepared for disasters were explained in detail by experts in the field. Vital information was provided to citizens on critical issues such as personal and family precautions to be taken before a possible disaster, correct behavior during a disaster, and health protection after a disaster. In addition, the psychological effects of disasters on individuals and the importance of psychosocial support during this process were emphasized. Veterinary Affairs Department experts provided information on precautions to be taken for the safety and health of animals in disaster situations, and emphasized that disaster awareness should cover all living things.
President Bozbey's Emphasis on Disaster Awareness
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Branch Manager Ceyhun Eskioğlu, in his speech at the program, stated that Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey attaches great importance to raising public awareness about disasters. Eskioğlu stated that they have started 'Public Health and Disaster Awareness Meetings' in neighborhoods in this direction and said, “We provide training on what to do before, during and after a disaster. Our aim is to minimize the loss of life and property by knowing what to do in the event of a possible disaster. We will continue these efforts in all neighborhoods of Bursa.”

Dr. Elif Derya Güngören, Public Health and Healthy Life Branch Manager, emphasized that the aim of the trainings was to ensure that the public protects their own health and has general information about disasters. Dr. Güngören thanked the neighborhood headmen for their support of this important project. It is of great importance for the success of the project that the headmen encourage citizens to participate in such awareness-raising activities.
'Public Health and Disaster Awareness Meetings' constitute an important part of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality's vision to make the city more resilient to disasters.
