Steps to Follow in Home Solar Energy System Installation

The 5 percent increase applied to residential subscribers as of April 2025, 25 has placed a significant burden on household budgets. This has increased the demand for residential type Solar Power Plants (SPP). Consumers aim to make significant savings on their electricity bills with the SPP system they will install in their homes.

So, what kind of process awaits those who want to install a solar energy system on their roof? Here are the details...

The rise in electricity prices has increased the demand for residential Solar Power Plants (SPP). Consumers who want to ease the burden of electricity price hikes are finding the solution in generating their own electricity at home. However, citizens who decide to install a solar energy system on their roof should pay attention to some issues in order not to encounter difficulties during and after the installation process.

Üçay Engineering Solar Energy Systems (GES) Coordinator Oğuzhan Yıldız shared the 6 steps to be followed in residential GES installation.

“As Üçay Engineering, we gather the steps that need to be followed in order to successfully manage the installation process of residential solar energy systems under 6 headings.

Discovery and Needs Analysis

First, we determine the suitability of the roof structure of the residence and the usable area. Then, we analyze the electricity consumption data and calculate the system size. However, at this point, the size of the investment is determined by the needs and budget of the homeowner.

Company Selection and Contract

After the offer phase, it is time to choose a company. At this point, we recommend our citizens to make a contract with an authorized and experienced EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Installation) company and to carefully evaluate the information about the materials to be used in the offer, as well as the workmanship and warranty conditions. Our citizens can consider the discovery and offer period as 1 to 3 days.

Application to Distribution Company

After the contract is signed with the company, it is time to apply for a call letter to the relevant distribution company within the scope of the 'Unlicensed Electricity Production Regulation'. In this process, we apply to the relevant distribution company by preparing the requested application forms with the power of attorney we received from our customer and obtaining the necessary documents from our customer.

Call Letter Process and Project Approval

The application is evaluated by the distribution company. If the application is found appropriate, the distribution company issues a 'Call for Connection Agreement'. The call letter application and approval process takes 15 to 45 days. Based on the call letter, we draw the project for the planned solar power plant and submit it for approval. After the project is approved, the 'Connection Agreement' is signed.

In order to get the project approved, a static project drawing, university approval and a GES conformity certificate from the relevant municipality are required. Obtaining these documents and then submitting the project for approval and signing the connection agreement takes approximately 25 to 40 days.

Installation Process

After the project is approved, we perform the system installation. We complete this process in 1 to 3 days. The duration is determined by the capacity of the installed system. After the installation is completed, an application for acceptance is made.

Acceptance, Commissioning and Testing Phases

"After the distribution company completes the field control and acceptance process, the system is connected to the grid and energy production begins. Acceptance and commissioning are completed within 10 to 20 days following the acceptance application," he said.
