Ordu-Giresun Airport Reached 10 Million Passengers in 8.8 Years

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu noted that Ordu-Giresun Airport, the first airport in Turkey and Europe built using the sea filling method, has served more than 10 million passengers in 8,8 years. Minister Uraloğlu said, “The number of passengers, which was approximately 223 thousand the year it was opened, increased by 329 percent and approached one million in 2024.”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a written statement regarding Ordu-Giresun Airport, the first airport in Turkey and Europe to be built using the sea filling method. Stating that the airport, which was put into service on May 22, 2015, is an exemplary engineering work developed against the geographical difficulties of the Black Sea, Uraloğlu said, “Ordu-Giresun Airport is not only a transportation point, but also a center of attraction that supports the economic, touristic and social development of the region.”

Served More Than 8,8 Million Passengers Since Its Opening

Minister Uraloğlu, stating that Ordu-Giresun Airport has served more than 22 million passengers since it was opened on May 2015, 8,8, said, “This airport, which brings together two important provinces of the Black Sea, has not only facilitated the access of the people of the region to air transportation; it has also increased its tourism and trade potential. The number of passengers, which was approximately 223 thousand the year it was opened, increased by 329 percent and approached one million in 2024.”

2,3 Million Square Meters of Filling Was Built in the Sea

Uraloğlu, reminding that all the facilities of Ordu-Giresun Airport were built on the sea, said, “We have implemented this project with a 7-meter breakwater, 435-meter ring road and 9 million square meters of filling area. We have brought a transportation masterpiece to the region with our 170-meter-long runway, technical blocks, tower and terminal building with an annual capacity of 2,3 million passengers.”

Environmentally Friendly Airport at International Standards

Uraloğlu emphasized that they continue to develop Ordu-Giresun Airport in line with the environmental vision and said, “Our airport is within the scope of the Carbon-Neutral Airport Project. It has a Level 2 certificate in the Carbon Accreditation Program conducted by the Airports Council International. At the same time, with its accessibility certificate, it is an accessible facility for every citizen.”
