
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) has added a new one to its works that prioritize the health and safety of citizens and employees, and has opened the “Occupational Health and Safety Training Center”. This center, which will operate under the Health Affairs Department, aims to prevent work accidents and potential dangers by offering various training programs for public personnel, amateur sports clubs, search and rescue teams and all citizens.
The opening ceremony of the center was held with the participation of ABB Secretary General Reşit Serhat Taşkınsu, Deputy Secretaries General Ahmet Mekin Tüzün and Baki Kerimoğlu, Health Affairs Department Head Mustafa Ünsal, Fire Department Head Levent Çeri, Municipal Police Department Head Olcay Erdal, Disaster Affairs Department Head Özkan Erel, Ankara Amateur Sports Clubs Federation President Murat Kandazoğlu, athletes and public personnel.
Taşkınsu: “Accidents can be prevented with proper training and awareness”
ABB Secretary General Reşit Serhat Taşkınsu, who made the opening speech, emphasized that a healthy and safe working environment directly affects the efficiency of tasks. Taşkınsu stated that they plan to expand the center's target audience and provide training in many areas, from safe driving to working at heights, from emergency response to first aid practices. Taşkınsu, who reminded that ABB has a large employee base and that these employees operate in different business lines, said, “Our goal is to increase awareness by further increasing the capacity of our training center. We believe that accidents can be prevented with the right training and awareness.”
Ünsal: “We Aim for a Zero Accident Focused Understanding”
Health Affairs Department Director Mustafa Ünsal, in his speech at the opening of the center, emphasized that they aim to create a zero-accident-focused understanding in society with the training to be provided. Stating that they want to prove that accidents can be prevented with a modern education system, Ünsal said, “In this facility, we will provide service to employees of all units of our Metropolitan Municipality and we will have the opportunity to provide occupational health and first aid training to our citizens in a comfortable environment.”
“First Step First Aid Project” Graduated Its First Students
Within the scope of the “First Step First Aid Project” implemented at the center, it was aimed to train first aid training for amateur sports clubs and to train equipped teams that can immediately intervene in injuries that may occur during sports competitions. This project hosted the certificate ceremony of the health personnel of the amateur sports clubs in the capital by producing its first graduates.
This project, which draws attention to the importance of rapid and correct intervention against sports injuries that may occur especially during matches and training, has attracted great interest from amateur sports clubs in Ankara. Vital topics such as basic life support, injury intervention techniques and emergency management are covered in detail in the trainings.
Kandazoğlu thanks the Metropolitan Municipality
Murat Kandazoğlu, President of the Ankara Amateur Sports Clubs Federation, thanked the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality for this meaningful project. Emphasizing the critical importance of occupational health and safety in human life, Kandazoğlu said, “I think the sensitivity and importance given by the Metropolitan Municipality to this issue is a very valuable work. As Ankara Amateur Sports Clubs, the Metropolitan Municipality not leaving us alone, supporting us, and today presenting a health kit to our amateur sports clubs in terms of health is very meaningful and valuable.”
The “Occupational Health and Safety Training Center” and “First Step First Aid Project” implemented by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality are considered to be an important step in increasing safety awareness in different segments of society and being prepared for possible risks.
