New Metro Line from IETT to Maltepe and Sancaktepe

IETT, which carries out public transportation services within the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, continues its efforts to expand and improve the transportation network throughout the city. The institution takes solution-oriented steps by visiting all 39 districts of Istanbul on site, listening directly to the unique needs of each region and the demands of the citizens. As a result of these comprehensive field studies, the planned new lines and service increases aim to make the daily lives of Istanbulites easier. Finally, it was announced that the SM12 / Maltepe University - Samandıra Metro line, which will serve the Maltepe and Sancaktepe districts and provide an important metro connection for the residents of the region, will be put into service on May 5, 2025.

New Transportation Solution Born as a Result of District Visits

The new SM12 bus line to be implemented by İETT emerged as a product of the institution's coordinated work with district municipalities and regional headmen. During their extensive district visits, İETT officials determined that Maltepe and Sancaktepe residents had a direct transportation demand, especially for the Marmara Education Village and Samandıra metro line. As a result of detailed planning made in line with this demand, the SM12 line route was determined and the necessary preparations were completed. This new line, which will have a total of 25 different trips per day in both directions, will provide an important response to the transportation needs of the local people.

SM12 Route and Its Advantages

The SM5 bus line, which will enter service on May 2025, 12, will form an important transportation axis between the Maltepe and Sancaktepe districts. The route of the line includes important points such as Maltepe University Vocational School (Marmara Education Village), one of the important educational institutions of the region, Maltepe Prison, Malkoçoğlu Street, one of the densely populated areas, and various schools in the region. The last stop of the line will be the M5 Samandıra – Üsküdar Metro, one of the important metro lines of Istanbul, located in the Sancaktepe district. Thanks to this direct connection, Maltepe and Sancaktepe residents will be able to easily reach important institutions in their own regions and travel quickly and without interruption to other central and busy points of Istanbul via the M5 metro line. This integration means great convenience and time savings, especially for residents of the region who use the metro line to go to work or school.

IETT's Vision of "Better Every Time"

In line with the principle of “better every time”, İETT continues its efforts to increase the quality of public transportation services throughout Istanbul. Works such as putting new lines into service, increasing the number of trips and optimizing the routes of existing lines are being implemented to provide Istanbulites with a more comfortable, more qualified and faster public transportation experience. This new metro-connected line for Maltepe and Sancaktepe districts is a concrete example of İETT’s vision. The institution attaches great importance to field studies and cooperation with stakeholders in order to produce the most suitable solutions for the transportation needs of citizens in all districts and continues its efforts with the principle of “full speed ahead” with the aim of continuously developing Istanbul’s public transportation network.
