Local and National Power Reinforcement to Coastal Safety Fleet

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu noted that they have strengthened the KEGM fleet in order to contribute to the safety of navigation, life, property and the environment. Minister Uraloğlu said, “2 Emergency Intervention Tugs, 6 Pilot Service Boats and 16 Multi-Purpose Fast Rescue Boats will join our fleet. All marine vehicles will be built in Turkish shipyards with domestic and national resources.”

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the General Directorate of Coastal Safety (KEGM) continues to strengthen its fleet in the Turkish Straits and the Blue Homeland every day by increasing the number of marine vessels.

“All Marine Vehicles Will Be Built with Local and National Resources”

Minister Uraloğlu, who noted that they continue to strengthen the KEGM fleet in order to contribute to the safety of navigation, life, property and the environment in Turkish territorial waters, said, “2 new marine vehicles, including 6 Emergency Intervention Tugs, 16 Pilot Service Boats and 24 Multi-Purpose Fast Rescue Boats, will join our fleet. All the marine vehicles, the tenders of which have been held, will be built in Turkish shipyards with domestic and national resources.”

Türkiye's Most Powerful Escort Tugs Will Be

Minister Uraloğlu stated that the Emergency Response Tugs will be 42 meters long and 16 meters wide and made the following statements in his statement:

“Our Emergency Response Tugs will have the most powerful escort tugboat feature in Türkiye with 130 tons of bollard pull. Designed to have a speed of at least 14 knots, the tugboats will be used in ship rescue, escort and towage services. We will also be able to intervene in fires with the Emergency Response Tugs, which will provide ship docking and lifting, pulling and pushing services to the port.”

Minister Uraloğlu stated that the Pilotage Service Boats to be used in the pilotage services provided to ships passing through the Turkish Straits will be 16,5 meters long and 5,4 meters wide, and said, “Our Pilotage Service Boats will have a speed of at least 18,5 knots and will be able to carry 4 pilots at the same time.”

Multi-Purpose Fast Rescue Boats to be Used in Search and Rescue Activities

Minister Uraloğlu stated that they designed the Multi-Purpose Fast Lifeboats as 18,5 meters long and 5,1 meters wide and noted that the speed of the boats will be at least 20 knots. Minister Uraloğlu continued his words as follows:

“We will carry out both search and rescue and fire extinguishing operations at sea with boats that can carry 7 survivors and 4 personnel at the same time. We will provide first aid to survivors in emergencies with the boats and ensure their transfer to rescue centers. Our boats will serve our sailors 7/24 at Emergency Response Stations along the entire coastline from Hopa to İskenderun.”

8 New Marine Vessels to Join the Fleet in July

Minister Uraloğlu stated that they have added 5 emergency response tugboats, 10 rib boats and 15 pilot service boats to the fleet of the General Directorate of Coastal Safety in the last 6 years and said, “The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure will add strength to the operational power of our General Directorate of Coastal Safety and we will add 2 emergency response tugboats and 6 pilot service boats, which we tendered last year, to our fleet in July, which will provide service in the Blue Homeland, especially in the Turkish Straits.”
