
According to the data of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Market Directorate, 2025 thousand tons of fresh fruits and vegetables were brought to Bayrampaşa and Ataşehir markets in April 205. While the most consumed fruit in Istanbul was strawberry, tomatoes were at the top of the vegetable category.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Market Directorate announced the data for April with the arrival of spring. In April, a total of 60.727 tons of fruit were brought to the Bayrampaşa and Ataşehir markets to meet the fresh fruit needs of Istanbulites. 44.264 tons of this amount reached the Bayrampaşa Market and 16.463 tons reached the Ataşehir Market.
In the same period, the total amount of fresh vegetables brought to the city was 145.111 tons. 111.670 tons of vegetables entered the Bayrampaşa Market and 16.463 tons of vegetables entered the Ataşehir Market.
MOST PREFERRED STRAWBERRY AND TOMATOES
With the arrival of spring, strawberries ranked first among the fruits most preferred by Istanbulites with 9.867 tons; followed by apples with 9.330 tons, bananas with 8.773 tons, oranges with 7.498 tons and lemons with 7.365 tons. In the vegetable category, tomatoes ranked first with 37.474 tons, followed by cucumbers with 19.328 tons, potatoes with 17.070 tons, peppers with 12.345 tons and onions with 9.462 tons.
