Thousand Meters of Fishing Net Assembled
According to a statement from the Batman Governorship, teams from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the Batman Gendarmerie Command conducted comprehensive inspections of Ilısu Dam Lake in the Oymataş Village, the University West Raman Campus area and the Kantar Bridge locations for illegal fishing. During the inspections, approximately a thousand meters of prohibited fishing nets that were found to have been left in the water were collected and destroyed. Such nets cause great damage to aquatic life and cause fish populations to decrease.
Prohibited Period and License Warning
Authorities emphasized the importance of the ban on fishing in inland waters. It was reminded that all fishing in inland waters is completely prohibited between April 1 and July 1. It was stated that commercial fishing is possible at other times with a license from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. It was stated that citizens who want to do amateur fishing for sport purposes must obtain an “Amateur Fisherman’s Certificate” from the Provincial or District Directorate of Agriculture.
The determined efforts of the Batman Provincial Gendarmerie Command and the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams are of great importance in terms of protecting water resources and preventing illegal hunting. It is expected that the penal actions taken will have a deterrent effect in preventing illegal hunting activities and preserving the natural balance.
