Disaster Awareness Training for Youth in Bursa

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality has taken an important step in order to create disaster awareness in young people who are the guarantors of the future at an early age. Disaster awareness training was organized for students of the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) who are preparing for university within the Bursa Art and Vocational Training Courses (BUSMEK) within the Metropolitan Municipality.

The Metropolitan Municipality, which continues its work with a participatory approach with the aim of making Bursa a more resilient, safer and more livable city, continues its educational activities uninterruptedly to establish disaster awareness in every segment of society. In this context, the expert and experienced team of the Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) came together with young people who will be the adults of the future at BUSMEK's YKS Preparation Centers.

In the trainings given by experts, precautions to be taken before natural disasters such as earthquakes, correct behaviors during earthquakes and what to do after earthquakes were explained in detail. While the importance of vital gathering areas, especially in disaster situations, was emphasized, possible problems and risks that earthquakes may cause were also shared with the youth. AKOM experts stated that being prepared for disasters is of vital importance and guided the students on what can be done on an individual and social level. The questions that the youth were curious about were answered patiently and understandably by the experts. In this way, the students became aware of disasters and gained important information on how to act in the event of a possible disaster.
