According to the “Poultry Production, March 2025” data announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), there was an 8,8% decrease in chicken egg production on an annual basis in March, while a significant 13,0% increase was recorded in chicken meat production.
Declining Trend in Egg Production
In March 2025, chicken egg production decreased by 8,8% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 1 billion 632 million 774 thousand pieces. This downward trend continued in the first three months of the year. In the January-March period, chicken egg production decreased by 2024% compared to the same period of 9,9, reaching 4 billion 832 million 482 thousand pieces. However, a recovery was observed compared to the previous month; Production, which was 1 billion 547 million 93 thousand pieces in February, reached the specified level with a 5,5% increase in March.
Increase in Chicken Meat Production
The opposite is true for chicken meat production. In March 2025, chicken meat production increased by 13,0% on an annual basis, reaching 231 tons. This increase continued on a monthly basis; production, which was 595 tons in February, increased by 218% in March. A similar upward trend is seen when looking at the first three months of the year. In the January-March period, chicken meat production increased by 260% compared to the same period last year, reaching 6,1 tons.
Increase in the Number of Slaughtered Chickens
In parallel with the increase in chicken meat production, there was also an increase in the number of slaughtered chickens. In March 2025, the number of slaughtered chickens increased by 8,2% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 122 million 53 thousand. In the first quarter of the year, the number of slaughtered chickens increased by 2024% compared to the same period in 8,6, reaching 361 million 349 thousand.
TÜİK's March 2025 poultry production data show that while there has been a significant increase in chicken meat production, the annual decline in chicken egg production continues. However, the slight recovery in egg production compared to the previous month is remarkable. The increase in the number of chicken slaughter stands out as a factor supporting the increase in meat production.
